Bob's childhood home, a hub of enthusiasm for canine companions, launched him into a lifetime love for dogs. This love for dogs led Bob to a career in training dogs in obedience, K-9 security, and AKC conformation in the late 70's. Bob's first Rottweiler was born in 1974, "Maxim Bear Von Gruenerwald CD".

His desire to have complete quality animals began his study of the Rottweiler. His breeding program produced both American & Canadian Champions, CDX-TD titled, and K-9's certified by the North American Police Dog Association with dogs presently on duty in Rowan County, North Carolina. Bob's passion took him to Germany beginning in 1990 to the ADRK Klub Sieger Show.

Bob's interest in AKC conformation competition grew; he was soon being requested to present dogs of other breeds. Bob turned professional handler in the late 80's. Bob attained certification as a professional handler, member of the Professional Handlers Association, and recognition as an AKC Registered Handler, for all sporting, hound, working, herding, and most non-sporting breeds.

Bob's interest in other breeds also developed, and he has bred, raised, and presented American Staffordshire Terriers. In February 2007, he co-imported a Norwich bitch from Finland. "Finney" finished her AKC championship quickly and in June 2009 produced her first litter, by IntCH Fairewood For Your Eyes Only. Bob's newest import is Norwich Terrier Nanstop Inferno, son of the world renowned IntCH Nanstop Polkagris.

Bob served as Director for the American Rottweiler Club for one term, was VP of the American Rottweiler Club for one term, served on the Judges Education Committee for six years, and he is ARC approved to present Rottweiler breed study groups.

Leaving the conformation competition profession at the end of 2003, Bob is presently approved by the AKC to judge Akitas, Bernese Mountain Dogs, Rottweilers, Great Danes, Boxers, Dobermans, Siberian Huskies, Bull Mastiffs, Mastiffs, Newfoundlands, Saint Bernards, Alaskan Malamutes, German Shepherds, Staffordshire Bull Terriers, American Staffordshire Terriers, Norwich Terriers and Junior Showmanship. Bob still exhibits his personal dogs, usually in the Bred By Exhibitor class.

Bob travels to Europe yearly, in his quest for knowledge, attending The World Show in 2008, 2009, and Crufts in 2010. He has also judged in Ireland. Bob will return to judge Belfast in July of 2011.

Bob's philosophy for the evaluation of breeding stock is: a dog must be complete, a total package to the standard of the breed. The animal must be able to do the job it is bred to perform. Breed type and the ability to function are of the utmost importance.
